Buddy the First Seeing Eye Dog Arrives in New York City
by Kayla
When Buddy arrived in New York City, I hope she behaved well. The newspaper reporters asked Morris Frank if a dog really could be the eyes of a human. "I will prove it," said Morris Frank. "I dare you to cross the streets. They are the biggest streets in the whole town," said a reporter. So they did. It was a very hard time for them, but guess what, they made it! Morris was happy with Buddy. They had a very good life together.

THE FIRST SEEING EYEING DOG ARRIVED IN NEW YORK
by Sophia
Big news! A blind person and the first seeing eye dog stepped foot in NewYork. The dog's name is Buddy and the guy's name is Morris Frank. They are trying to prove to people that they make a great team. The road that they are going on is a very dangerous road. Morris Frank is using commands like forward, back, right, left. Buddy is the smartest and bravest dog I ever met. They just finished crossing the road. The drivers got angry because they just walked right into the road. I wonder what it is like to have the first seeing eye dog cross that road that most people couldn't cross. I think Buddy is an amazing dog to be able to help the blind!!!

Michelle Markel Visits Wise School
by Noa, Grade 6
Photo: Amber, Grade 6
MIchelle Markel is the youngest of two daughters. She grew up next to movie theaters. When she was little, she would read baseball player biographies. She first started writing when she would create little, short stories. Michelle attended UCLA and USC, as well. Who do you think she cheers for during football season? Mrs. Markel even interned at the Los Angeles Times. She started writing children's books when she had her daughter. She is also a member of the Children's Author Foundation. She loves fairytales. She says that she used to want to be a teacher and write. She even said, "Something you love when you are young, your passion, could turn into something that you love and pursue later on."
Michelle Markel spoke about her Henri Russo book and she said that she does much research before and during the writing of a book. Here is some information that was part of her very detailed research: Henri Russo would copy paintings, and look at magazines to get inspiration, ideas and improve his art. Henri wanted to have, make and paint jungle pictures. Henri liked flowers and wilderness. He also had a great sense of humor. At first, all critics did not like him. This was because he painted very differently. But, Picasso and others knew that he truly was talented. Speakng of her Henri Russo book, did you know that it got rejected seven times? But, Michelle always kew that people would like it, she had the book published anyway.
Michelle also spoke to us about what goes into the process of making a book. First, you must research. Then you must make and have many drafts and do many revisions. After that, you submit, wait for acceptance, revise again and illustrate. The last part of this complex process is publication. Michelle told us that about 1,000 copies of a book can be made in one day! Amazing, right? Amanda, her illustrator, has grown to be her very good friend! Michelle Markel also mentioned that you cannot whine and complain when you do not like an illustration made for your book. You have to say something like, "It just does not feel right for my book." Luckily, the books she published are full of brilliant illustrations and very good writing.

Sports and Cheerleading
By Amber, Grade 2
We have breaking news about sports and cheerleading. Cheerleading is my rule, I like to dance and sing. I like to stretch and go to sports games, so why wouldn’t I like to cheer? Now, let’s get to sports. The Wildcats basketball team practiced really hard this season. Wise School cheerleaders performed for the basketball practice rounds. One of those little happy cheerleaders was me. It is really exciting to be a performer. See you at the game!
Sports Update
by Jonah and Nour, Grade 3
On Tuesday, November 10th, the fourth grade beat Sierra Canyon by a score of 24-10. Our coach, Coach Herold is awesome. Let’s go Wildcats! Let’s go! (Clap, Clap)
Lunch Update
by Benji, Grade 3
It is good that they made a hot lunch with burgers and hotdogs, because I love the burgers and I kind of like the hot dogs. They should bring back brown chicken, but not the tuna fish. I order the burger with ketchup because it fills you up and it tastes good. Hot lunch fills you up and it’s hot, too. Hot lunch may be expensive, but it is healthy for your kids. Hot lunch is good for you, too!
Boys Football
by Itamar and Ryan, Grade 2
Boys football is very good. The quarterbacks throw good spirals. The boy reserves are very good. The football team is very good in everything they do. They practice a lot. The boys football team rocks.
Laser Tag
by Alexander and Breana, Grade 2
Laser tag is a fun game. It is basically a tag game. We also like the game because it is a running game and we like to run. We all like laser tag.
Math
by Elliott, Grade 3
Math around here many seem normal, but we’re doing addition, substraction and all that weird stuff. We have an integrated 3rd, 4th grade math and some awesome teachers such as Mrs. Biller and Mrs. Anderson. Around here, there’s no such thing as a boring lesson. Everyone does their work and is happy. Kids have a perfect class at their level. That’s why math around here is totally awesome.

Mini-Hospital Should Replace Nurse's Office
by Yonatan, Grade 2
The nurse’s office should be a mini-hospital. They should have comfy new beds. We should change the paint to light lime green. We should extend the room and add better style. It should be called the Wise Mini Hospital. It would be useful if people got sick.
