The school year is winding down and we are making the most of every day! Earlier in the week, many 3rd grade students attended the book awards assembly. These students read many award winning books throughout the school year and worked really hard!
We have a very special Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday. Instead of doing separate services with Mrs. Voltera, the entire 3rd grade held Shabbat outside together. It was a beautiful way to enjoy the last Kabbalat Shabbat of the year together as a grade. Reminders: Monday June 6th - Full school day Tuesday June 7th - Maccabi Games at Woodley Park. Event ends at 12:00. Parents drop off and pick up kids AT Woodley Park. Please send your student with a water bottle and make sure they already have sunscreen applied. Wednesday June 8th - Minimum day. Last day of school Shabbat Shalom!

We've had a busy week in 3rd grade! The students really enjoyed showing off their work. Thanks to all of the families who showed up.
In project studio, groups of students are creating boardgames based on various things they've learned in social studies over the year. They are working so well together and it's great to see such awesome collaboration. Lastly, this week Wise School honored the WPA with a tasty breakfast and songs from each grade. We hope you enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend! Shabbat Shalom Happy Friday!
The 3rd graders did an excellent job working on their ERB tests. They’re finally done! They worked so hard and stayed very focused. We’re extremely proud of them. The students have also been putting the finishing touches on their book reports and museums for the art gallery. We look forward to showing you their great work at Open House this coming Monday, May 23rd. Have a great weekend! We’ve had quite the eventful week! On Monday, the whole school went out to the Israeli flag and had a moment of silence for Yom HaZikaron to honor those who have fought for the country of Israel. We lit a candle and sang Haitkvah. It was quite touching.
We also enjoyed some Israeli Dancing at American Jewish University on Monday. It was quite an exciting performance! After the show, the students practiced some Israeli dancing outside. It was a short and sweet field trip! On Thursday, we watched the 4th graders do an excellent performance to celebrate Israeli Independence Day. They incorporated everything from comedy, singing, and dancing. We sure have talented students! Lastly, students and parents celebrated the teachers for Yom Hamoreh. We had an assembly where teachers, students, and faculty honored Paula Frost, who will be retiring after 35 years of teaching at Wise School. She’s had quite the impact on many students and families and we are so happy to have had the pleasure of being a part of her time at Wise School. Shabbat Shalom! Happy Friday! We hope you enjoyed your spring break. We had an excellent first week back at school. During our Monday assembly, we said goodbye to a group of 6th graders, as they are leaving for their trip to Israel! Very exciting. Rabbi Josh also spoke to Sage about receiving an award. Sage's dad is a diplomat and travels all around the world. He has been living in Afghanistan this year and Rabbi Josh wanted to honor Sage for the sacrifice her and her family have made.
In technology, groups of students are building and programing robots made out of Lego's. Very cool! Lastly, we wanted to remind you about Monday's field trip to American Jewish University where we will watch and learn Israeli dances. The students will not need to bring anything with them because we will only be there for 2 hours. Shabbat Shalom! What a wonderful week it has been! The students did a WONDERFUl job with their Pesach Performance. We are so proud of them. Below are some videos of some of the songs they performed. There is also a link with photos that were taken by Steven Foonberg along with directions on how to access them on his website. We are so grateful for his beautiful photos that document such a memorable occasion. Today the students who participate in Odyssey of the Mind performed for some of the elementary school. They were so creative and humorous! The students and teachers really enjoyed it. In Math, the students are continuing to learn about shapes and angles. The other day, they used Tan Grams to create different shapes. It was really fun! You will also see a video of Mrs. Fridman's hebrew class explaining what happens on Passover. We've had an exciting week in 3rd grade. The students' animal projects are coming along wonderfully. They are such great writers and they are putting so much hard work and effort into creating a well written piece of work.
On Thursday, we had our first spirit day! Students dressed in black in white, ate black and white cookies at lunch, and went up to watch a black and white movie at lunch. We are all excited for other upcoming spirit days. In math, the 3rd graders have started geometry. The students used plastic boards and rubber bands to create geometric shapes they have been learning about. The students have also been very creative in art. They have been working on portraits and landscapes that reflect the art in the museum that they chose. Last but certainly not least, we had a successful STEAM night on Wednesday! Thank you to all who came. We had a blast! Enjoy the pictures below! Shabbat Shalom Happy Friday!
The 3rd graders resumed swimming for PE this week. They were very happy to be back in the pool! In library, Mrs. Lloyd introduced poetry to the 3rd graders. Each student picked a poem from a variety of books and read it to their classmates. Very fun! Lastly, the students have been working SO hard to prepare for the Pesach Miracle performance. They have memorized their lines, cues, songs, and dances. We have been practicing as individual classes and with the whole grade. We look forward to sharing it with you. The Pesach Miracle performance will take place on Wednesday, April 13th at 8:15 AM. Please disregard any other date you may have received. There was some miscommunication about the day. Shabbat Shalom! We had a very wonderful week. Purim was exciting! We had a school wide service full of songs, costumes, and fun. We also celebrated by participating in Israeli dancing with Mrs. Orevi. Lastly, the students traded mishloach manot and enjoyed each other's treats. Below is a video of students in Mrs. Fridman's class singing Purim songs. Lastly, we wanted to remind you that swimming for PE resumes on Monday (or Tuesday, depending on which class your child is in). Make sure your child comes with a swim suit, towel, sun screen, goggles, and a swim bag to put their wet items in. Shabbat Shalom! Happy Friday!
Thank you to all the parents who came out for parent teacher conferences. It was great meeting with you all. This morning we had a wonderful Shabbat service with the whole school. It was a special Founder's Day service where we honored all of the founding congregants and Stephen S. Wise himself. Below are some pictures from this morning's service. This Sunday is the Purim Carnival at Wise School! We look forward to seeing you there. Here is the information. http://www.wisela.org/Purim/ |
