We started off the week at Camp Alonim in the beautiful outdoors! Our students had a fantastic time completing a scavenger hunt, playing games, doing an art project, Israeli dancing with their 6th grade buddy, singing, and eating a delicious lunch. This week we also finished up our study on communities. Students worked together to make different community buildings such as a hospital, a school, and a store. In math we started counting by 2's and 5's to 20. In Mrs. Katan's hebrew class, students are continuing to learn about the story of creation. This week students learned that there are special writing rules that they follow when they are writing such as starting a sentence with a capital letter, using spaces, and a period at the end of the sentence. In social studies, we continued learning about community. We learned about many community helpers that do great things for our community such as a doctor, mail carrier, and teacher. In math students were sorting and classifying by color, shape, size, and special features. In hebrew students continued with learning about the story of creation. They also learned about the holiday of Tu B'Shevat and all the things that trees give us. We are looking forward to a fun filled day on Monday! We read a story about different community workers. This week we started a new unit on community! Within this unit students will be learning all about the residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural communities. Students thought deeply about their own community and if they live in a urban, suburban or rural community. They wrote about where they live and created a map of their neighborhood with the help of their 6th grade buddy! They also created the front of their house with a paper bag. Students thought about what they are a member of. Students realized that they are a member different kinds of communities such as their neighborhood, family and Wise school. In math we finished learning and had practice with numbers 1-20. We ended our week learning and celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and all that he has done to make our world a better place. In Mrs. Katan's class students finished learning the hebrew words of winter clothing. Students started learning about the next unit of creation. 1/19 Professional Development Day Student Free 1/25 Tu B'Shevat Camp Alonim Field Trip ****7:30-2:30**** Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful winter break. This week students explored and thought deeply about their resolutions and goals for the new year. They thought about a resolution that is personal and one that is for school. Ask your child about their resolution! In math we spent some time learning about patterns! Students learned to identify the pattern unit and a variety of other types of patterns (i.e.: AB, ABB, ABC). Lastly, students made their own shape, color, and size patterns! Students also continued to work on their numbers to 20. We will continue with these numbers next week. In Mrs. Katan's hebrew class students started a winter unit where they are learning the hebrew names for winter clothing. We were happy to see so many of you at our kindergarten praying with parents!
