This week students listened to stories where the characters had high hopes of courage, faith, determination, and perseverance! They sang the song, High Hopes by Frank Sinatra. They also learned how the characters such as the little ant, the little engine, and the little owl all have high hopes! In math students learned about numbers 11-20 this week! They practiced writing these numbers, showing the number on a ten-frame, and using pictures to show the numbers. Lastly, we had our first spirit week celebrating Israel! This week students completed many Hanukkah activities! They used different geometric shapes to make a dreidel or a Jewish star. Students were challenged to think of all the different combination of shapes they could use! Students listened to some Hanukkah stories where they completed their own Hanukkah book. In Mrs. Katan's class students learned all about the story of Hanukkah! In math students played some games to practice their numbers 1-10. Next week students will start with numbers 11-20. We ended our week with our fun Hanukkah Party! Students enjoyed eating latkes, making candy dreidels, and decorating cookies. They also played a few games like pin the candle on the menorah, dreidel, and Hanukkah Roll and Cover, and Hanukkah Bump. Upcoming Events12/17 Spirit Day
12/18 Free Dress Day! Dismissal at 12:30 12/21-1/1 Winter Break 1/4 Classes Resume We started this week by getting together with our 6th grade buddies! Our buddies helped us make a Hanukkah present! Be on the look out for a very special present coming your way during Hanukkah!! In math students learned about size and position. We made guesses to see if different classroom objects can fit in boxes of different sizes. We used position words such as on top of, next to, behind, under, in between to describe where different objects are located. We also talked about our day using words before and after to describe different parts of our day. Next week we will be doing many different Hanukkah activities in class!
