Dear Parents,
As a part of our on-going safety preparedness at Wise School, we conducted a shelter-in-place drill this morning in all classrooms. The students did an excellent job following directions and the drill allowed our teachers and security staff to review important protocols. Scheduled fire, earthquake, and shelter-in-place drills allow students to feel prepared for unforeseen circumstances and build confidence in their ability to react appropriately in a given situation. The students are provided with general information about the purpose of these drills in an age-appropriate manner. They are also given specific steps to follow, including: moving away from windows, remaining quiet, and staying silent if there is a knock on the door. We recognize that these drills can be frightening for students but believe that - ultimately - they lead to a greater sense of wholeness. We will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community in a manner that is sensitive and loving. We are here to answer any of your questions regarding these procedures. Click here for a helpful article about how to talk to your children about exercises like these.
