Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families, Our week began with a beautiful Havdalah service led by Jen Shankman. During calendar time, we welcomed the month of March and marked the number 20 on the calendar as the first day of Aviv - spring. We introduced the four mitzvot of Purim and will continue to talk about how the children can fulfill them. The mitzvot are: ● Matanot la’Evyonim – Giving to the poor ● Mishloach Manot – Sending gift baskets of sweets ● Mikrah Megillah – The reading of the megillah ● Mishteh – The festive feast The children shared their responses to “Why do we perform mitzvot on Purim?” You want to be nice to people because they are nice to you. You should put food in a bag because not all people have food. It’s a mitzvah to listen to the Megillah because you want to learn more stuff about Purim. It’s a mitzvah to be happy at Purim! You do a mitzvah at Purim because it’s Jewish to do mitzvot. Because if people don’t have food and they don’t have money and we DO, we need to help them. Specialists: We practiced our volleyball skills in pairs during P.E with Coach Danny, using different types of balls. Yoga Cheryl took us on an African Safari Yoga Adventure with Olly the Ostrich. We practiced the Extended Mountain Pose, Wide-Legged Forward Bend Pose, and Tree Pose. Rabbi Josh told an interactive Purim story with the children acting out the different parts. When speaking about Esther’s bravery, Rabbi Josh asked the children, “How can we be brave when helping others?” One child responded that when there was an earthquake, he and his mom went to check on his little sister first, even thought they were scared. The children enjoyed making Ra’ashanim - Groggers - out of recycled metal cans. They had a choice of materials to put inside the groggers that came from our yard: Rocks, sticks, marbles, tiles or small balls that fell out of the tree next to Room 1. We then played a guessing game while listening to the different sounds, trying to determine which materials are in each grogger. Thank you to Max’s mom Stephanie for baking Oznei Haman with us this week. Special Dates:
Shabbat Shalom and have a wonderful weekend. Meirav and Shoshi
