This week began our unit on Purim. We listened and learned songs for this happy holiday. Did you know it is a Mitzvah to be happy on Purim?
”My Hat, It Has Three Corners,” and many more. We are learning the story of Megillat Esther and the children learned the characters in the story and will be choosing which one they’d like to be: Melech Ahashverosh, Malkat Esther, Vashti, Mordechai and Haman. In addition, they will be decorating crowns to represent the characters they have chosen. We are continuing to review the children’s names on a daily bases and the children are able to recognize their names and their friend’s names. We read Baxter, The Pig Who Wanted to Be Kosher and decided to make fresh pickles with the kids. Ask your child to show you the jar in our room and the ingredients we used inside. A big Thank You to all of our parents who brought in delicious fruit for your children to taste and experience. Our room 15 friends sang a song in front of the entire Explorer team and were very proud and happy. We baked and decorated a cake in honor of the Birthday of the Trees, and took pictures under our beautiful blossoming trees around campus.
Each child planted an individual flower plant, and they are now responsible for watering it weekly. This week we also worked on using scissors and most of our friends are mastering that fine motor skill. The more you practice, the better you get! We are working with the children on recognizing their names in Hebrew and we are amazed that some of them do know their own names as well as their friends. We introduced Purim this week, and after only 2 times of telling the story, many friends know the story and have participated in answering questions about the story.
