Dear Parents,
This was an exciting week having been able to meet with you all! During the first part of the week, we introduced beading and using scissors, both focusing on fine motor skills and colors. Both of these activities clearly peeked the students’ interest, which we always love to see so early on. We also started talking about the weather. We have a new routine to have a different weather helper every day who looks outside of the door and reports back to the class what the weather looks and feels like. This is working out very well since our weather is slightly changing, so the children can become more familiar with the vocabulary describing the weather, such as windy, cloudy, sunny and rainy. We continue to work on activating our senses. We have been using bean bags that are filled with coffee beans to smell and place on various parts of our body (for review of body part names), using an essential oils diffuser to make the room smell like lemon and other scents, and even making scented play-dough! As a result, your children have a heightened interest in using their other senses as well. We introduced the sense of touch by having the students touch different kinds of materials such as leaves, plush toys, the rough brick wall and plastic foods. We also started talking about emotions and how we feel: happy, sad, identifying emotions on a daily basis using a felt version of basic emoji’s: happy, sad, glad and mad. The children have been coming to the board and picking which emotion they are feeling and then we ask that they try to use their words to explain how they feel. When you have a moment, you may want to ask your children these questions and why they are feeling a certain way. This week Jordan was our Shabbat Aba, and as usual Shabbat was filled with excitement! Next week we have a full week of school. Don’t forget: daylight savings happens on November 1st. Also on November 1st is the school’s Mitzvah Day! We look forward to seeing everybody next week and have a fantastic weekend. Best, Tatiana and Lashelle
