Dear Room 13 Families,
We had, yet another, wonderful week here in Room 13! We began our week with a beautiful class Havdalah service. The children smelled the spices and watched as the candle flickered and the wax dripped down. As Havdalah came to a close, the children were ready to start our new week. We began by reminding ourselves about the importance of the holiday of Shavuot, which was celebrated Saturday night and Sunday. Since this holiday is often celebrated by eating dairy (the Torah is as sweet as milk and honey), the children had the joy of baking a cheese cake. And boy was it delicious. They greatly enjoyed the experience from beginning to end! As our year winds down, we are continuing our work on our family trees and are beginning to work on a very special end of the year project. The children worked hard, using their amazing fine motor skills, to carefully place colorful pompoms on the branches of their trees. We revisited the idea of a family tree, what it means to have ancestors and who they are and the importance of knowing each of our family histories. The children are very excited to be adding their families to their masterpieces. The children also had the opportunity to begin painting on large canvases for a very special end of the year surprise. They will continue to work on both of these throughout next week as well. Throughout the rest of the week the children engaged in new materials, everything from more challenging building materials to playing Zingo together as a group. On Thursday, we greatly enjoyed our time with Rabbi Sari, hearing a wonderful story about the letters in the Torah. We ended our week with a beautiful Shabbat celebration! We had the pleasure of celebrating Shabbat with Colette, Ezekiel and their families!
