Dear Room 13 Families, We have had, yet another, amazing week in room 13. We began with our beautiful Havdalah service. The children realized that even though we did not celebrate Shabbat together (since we were out for Rosh Hashanah), we could still say goodbye to Shabbat together. As we welcomed in our new week, we thought about all the wonderful things we would get to do together. After Havdalah, we briefly introduced the holiday of Yom Kippur. We discussed how it is a holiday where we spend time thinking about what we can do better for the upcoming year. Reminding the children of our Tashlich ceremony last week, we continued to talked about how we can help our families, friends, our class community and even our world. We read the book, “The Good Deed,” learning how one simple mitzvah can change the community for the good. Throughout the week, the children worked hard creating their very own Shofar. We learned where the Shofar comes from, looking at pictures of horned animals. We saw that some can be small and some very long. The children each painted and used their own “Shofar.” Each morning, after singing Modeh Ani, we brought the shofarot to the circle to help wake everyone up for the day. We sang the Shofar song as the children blew Tikiyah, Shevarim and Teruah. By Wednesday, we began our discussion on the holiday of Sukkot. We learned where a Sukkah comes from and how to build one. We looked at pictures of all different types of Sukkot, notices the similarities as well as the differences. When one child excitiedly said, “When I get big, I’m going to build a Sukkah!” The rest of the circle then exploded with , “Me too!” We then asked, why do we need to wait until you are “big”? Maybe we can build one in our classroom.” The children became very excited by this idea. We mentioned that this would involve a lot of planning in advance. So, we spent the rest of the week making plans for our Sukkah. The children built Sukkot out of blocks and Magni Tiles, as well as drawing blue prints at the Art Center. We are very excited to see where this leads us! On Friday, we spent a beautiful Shabbat celebrating together as a class. We want to wish you all a G’mar Chatimah Tovah, have an easy and meaningful fast. Shabbat Shalom, Hannah and Chen Reminders: *Please remember to sign your child in and out, with a legible signature, EVERY day.
