Dear Room 13 Families,
Wow, another very busy and very joyful week in the books for us here in Room 13! We spent our week celebrating the holiday of Sukkot and preparing ourselves for the celebration of Simchat Torah. We read Sukkot books, sang Sukkot songs and explored Sukkot traditions. We studied the Lulav and Etrog, learning all about how each of piece represents a part of our body, reminding us how to act; the palm branch represents our spine, reminding us to stand tall; the willow branch represents our mouth, reminding us to speak kind words and say blessings of thanks to God; the myrtle branch represents our eyes, reminding us to see and enjoy all of God’s creations; the Etrog represents our heart, reminding us to have a kind and generous heart. We began our week by creating decorations for the Sukkah that the children built, last week, within our classroom. The children worked hard beading, gluing and picking out the perfect flowers and jewels for each piece of artwork created. The children then had the opportunity to create their very own mini Sukkah. The children built their Sukkah from wooden blocks, created mini Sukkah decorations, added walls of fabric and topped it off with beautiful schach on top. They were all so proud of their creations! As a class, we took a trip over to the Sukkah on the Parenting Center Yard. The children were thrilled to see the giant Sukkah, full of decorations and schach on top. We sat with Rabbi Josh, talking about the importance of this nature-filled holiday. The children then had the opportunity to each share in the mitzvah of shaking the Lulav and Etrog. In preparation for our next holiday, Simchat Torah, the children created flags with the Torah on it. On Tuesday, we will celebrate by parading with the Torah and our flags and celebrate the joy of ending the Torah and beginning it all over again. We ended our week with beautiful class and Explorer Shabbat celebrations. This Shabbat we had the pleasure of having Shabbat services outside in nature, enjoying our time outside during the holiday of Sukkot. The children also greatly enjoyed creating edible Sukkot after our classroom Shabbat celebration. They created the walls with crackers, the branches with pretzel sticks, the scach with lettuce and the decorations with a few candy corn (to represent the harvest foods). After creating their Sukkot, they enjoyed their delicious creations! We want to wish you all a peaceful Shabbat and again a Chag Sameach. Shabbat Shalom, Hannah and Chen Reminders: *Please remember to sign your child in and out, with a legible signature, EVERY day.
