Dear Room 13 Families,
What an exciting week, here is Room 13! It began a bit differently than our normal weeks. Since there was no school on Monday, we didn’t begin our school week with Havdalah. Instead, we began it with a very exciting science experiment. When the children entered the room, they were asked to draw their hypotheses about what is hiding inside of the giant pumpkin on the table in front of them. Many children excitedly exclaimed that there were seeds inside! Some friends thought only one and others a lot. One friend even thought that there was a pumpkin pie hiding inside! After the children made all of their “smart guesses” it was time to see what was inside. The children (and the tour visiting our room at the time) waiting in great suspense as we cut open the pumpkin. When the pumpkin finally broke open, there was cheering, clapping and the children excitedly yelling, “Seeds! We see seeds!” Each child had the opportunity to touch the seeds within the pumpkin and feel the difference between the outside and the inside of the pumpkin. We, of course, continued our conversation on what it means to be thankful, how do we express this to others and how important it is that we have a holiday especially for showing our thanks to others. The children expressed their gratitude for everything from Spiderman to family and friends to God. After a number of children expressed their thankfulness towards God, we taught the children a new song all about how we feel God. Within the words of a fun, silly song, is an understanding of God being all around us and being a part of each of our senses. After learning this great new song, we had the opportunity to spend some time in Room 9, with the Pre-K children, who had also just learned a new song. We had a great time, singing and teaching one another our new songs! Over the course of the week, the children have been working hard on a fantastic pumpkin inspired art piece. They are having fun, while building their fine motor skills by using a variety of mediums; paint, pins, beads, buttons, etc. They will continue to work on their master pieces into next week as well. Feel free to come check out the progress! On Thursday, we heard an important story of forgiveness from Rabbi Josh and played the drums with Andrew, our Music teachers. We ended our week with a beautiful Shabbat celebration with Luca and his family.
