Dear Room 13 Families,
What a joyous week here in Room 13! We began our week with a beautiful Havdalah service with our Explorer community. As we transitioned from Thanksgiving into Hanukkah discussions, during Havdalah, we focused on the light of the Havdalah candle; the flame being created from multiple wicks, just like the light of our community, being created from each one of us. After welcoming in our new week together, we stayed as a community to hear again the story of Hanukkah. Throughout the week, we had a fabulous time discussing the story of Hanukkah (focusing on the values within), reading Hanukkah books and singing many joyous Hanukkah songs. The children are so excited to share the new songs they have learned with all of you at our Hanukkah party! Hanukkah has definitely filled our room, within every center and space! At the Math center, the children were counting candles to place in the Hanukiyah. At the Literacy center, they were working on Hanukkah puzzles, sewing Hanukkah symbols and playing Hanukkah bingo. In the Dramatic Play center, the children have been cooking up latkas and lighting the candles with one another. In the Science center, they have continued to explore in our Light Room with new reflective materials. At the Art center, the children have also greatly enjoyed creating many colorful, sparkly Hanukkah themed works of work. Together as a group, they worked to create a giant Hanukiyah that now hangs in our room. They also, using their fine motor skins, spun dreidles, full of paint, right in a bucket with paper. They laughed as they saw the design the dreidles created. Last week, each child had the opportunity to shape, out of clay, their very own Hanukiyah. After firing them in the kiln, this week, the children painted them, with their own beautiful designs. They are excited to see as the glaze changes within the kiln and cannot wait to take them home and use them for your Hanukkah celebrations. On Thursday, we had a great time visiting Room 14 for “Storah Time” and then Room 10 for Music with Andrew. Since Rabbi Sari was not able to join us, Hannah told the story of Hanukkah, full of props and costume changes, and Chen sang songs, to both of our classes. During Music with Andrew, we say songs about Latkas and even pretended to grow our own potatoes. The children had a great time dressing up this week! We began our week very cozy in our Pajamas, even enjoying milk and cookies for snack! They then had a wonderful time coming to class dressed in their favorite story book characters. It was so wonderful seeing so many of you at the Book Reading/Sing-a-long. Thank you so much for the amazing books that so many of you generously donated to our classroom library. We ended our week with a beautiful Shabbat celebration with Madison and her family.
