Dear Room 13 Families, We began our week, like we do each week, with a beautiful class Havdalah service. We then, throughout our week, continued working on creating their Hanukkiyot, reading Hanukkah stories and singing Hanukkah songs. We even handmade our very own suffganiyot (jelly donuts). The children made the dough, rolled it into balls and after it was fried in oil, they had the joy of squeezing jelly inside of it and sprinkling powdered sugar on top! What a delicious and joyous week! The children wanted to continue observing their oil experiment from last week. To take their observations a step further, we decided to draw what they saw. We learned what it meant to work on a Still-Life drawing (looking at an object and drawing what we see). We discussed using a permanent marker to draw just the outline and then using paints to fill in the colored portion. The children worked long and hard, over a number of days, completing their Still-Life drawings. As our conversation of light continues, the children created their own translucent dreidels. After adding see-thru materials to the inside, it was so exciting to see how the light brightened up their artwork. On Thursday we had the pleasure of celebrating with so many of you during our class Hanukkah party. We greatly enjoyed singing, dancing, lighting the candles and of course, eating. Thank you all so much for bringing in food and decorations that helped to make our party so special and delicious! We then ended our week with a beautiful school wide Shabbat. We want to wish you all a very Happy Hanukkah and we look forward to seeing you all in January. Shabbat Shalom, Your Room 13 Teachers Reminders: *Please remember to sign your child in and out, with a legible signature, EVERY day.
