Purim Fun! After Havdalah on Monday, all of Explorers gathered in room 13 for a Purim puppet show. The children were delighted to see the Purim characters represented with puppets. Over the past two weeks we have read Purim related books, sang Purim songs, made groggers and a colorful mask. We have had group discussions about Purim, and we have told the story by using felt board characters. This week we have added discussions about making a basket filled with Hamantashen, and other tasty treats (Shalach Manot). We have been talking with the children about making a basket and giving it to someone special that works at Wise. So far, the children have voted for Heidi (office staff), officer King (Security) and our Yoga and Music teachers that we have on Tuesday. On Thursday, we made Hamantashen dough so that we can make the cookies on Monday. On Tuesday, March 10th, we will have our Purim celebration. The children may dress up in custom on that day. They will take their groggers to the temple, so that they can shake them during the Purim story. The children have been acting the story out in play by using the castle, blocks, masks and jewelry. Conversation Skills The children have been building on their language development (conversation skills) this year by making strong connections in the classroom with their peers. Every chance that the children get they are communicating with each other by talking or in play. Sometimes we just sit back and listen to the children talk with one another. The conversations that arise can be amusing, sweet, informative and smart. When the children are given the opportunity to talk with each other, without having a lot of adult interference, they are building on higher-level thinking, language, back -and-forth exchanges, eye contact, social cues and much more. We are happy to see that the children have grown so much this year and that they are enjoying each other as a group (family). Reminders:
