Dear parents,
With the three days that we had this week, there were many amazing things happening around our room. Following the children’s strong interests in puzzles and considering that they have now completed all our 48-piece puzzles, we have brought into our classroom a 200-piece puzzle. This will be a long-term project, exercising something that will stay in our room for weeks and we will continue to work on as a group, hopefully at the end culminating with gluing it together and hanging it on our wall as art work. The children voted on which kind of puzzle to get which led to a discussion about what it means to vote and how important the choices that we make are, tying this back to how we treat others with respect. This week we also focused at our tables on all-natural loose parts of various shapes and sizes. There are so many benefits to having this kind of open-ended learning where there is no specific goal in mind, the children use their imagination to create. Some made a hockey rink, others made castles, and all were wonderful examples of how when we allow children the freedom to experiment, make a plan with follow through, and problem solve either individually or while communicating with a peer. During music with Teacher Andrew, the children were dropping their bean bags and scarves to see what falls to the ground faster. The children loved doing this while Andrew sang songs about the cold weather. Rabbi Sari discussed with the children the parts of a tallit, since the children are interested while it is held above them during our Shabbat services. Thank you to Isabella and her family for being Shabbat family this week and celebrating with us. Reminders: Shabbat child next week is Lilah. Picture week is next week! Our picture day is Wednesday.
