Dear Parents,
It was a fun Passover filled week in Room 14. We began the week with making caramel and chocolate covered matzah. This was a multi-step process, requiring patience when waiting in between steps. The children were so excited to be creating such a sweet treat and got to try some along with snack that day. Thank you to Grayson’s mom for coming in to make this with the children. The children also took time this week to paint the fronts and backs of their Seder plates. This has been a wonderfully customized project as the children had a part in every step and took their time over multiple days to complete it. The children rolled out the clay, got to experience it with their senses, found the Passover symbols to stamp on, and waited as they were put in our school’s kiln to be baked. They then painted each side with clay paint, like color me mine, where they had to understand that the color that it appears to be is different than the result after it is put in the kiln again. The results were beautiful, and we hope that you all enjoy them. We already incorporated Passover into other art lessons this week. We had the children sit at the tables and, using examples of frogs, Moses and Egyptians, drew different parts of the Passover story. This skill of drawing from reference helps them learn to translate what is being seen to a 2d drawing and how to match the colors and shapes so that when looked at next to one another, they look similar. We also made Elijah cups using droppers for fine motor development with glass paint to create a dripping effect. The children also strengthened their cognitive development through a matching game that was completed first as a whole group and then in small groups. We are so impressed by how interested the children were, how long they sat for waiting for their turn, and how proud of themselves they were when they found a pair. Thank you to everybody who made our Seder on Thursday so wonderful and meaningful. Thank you also to Blake and Noah’s family for being Shabbat families this week. Reminders: We are on spring break for two weeks and will return to school on Monday April 9th. When we return, Shabbat boys are Grayson and Eli. Shabbat Shalom, Room 14 Parents
