Dear parents, This week in room 14 was filled with fun and great discussions! We have begun our conversations on Yom Kippur and about our relationships with those around us. Our focus question of the week that we have been asking the children daily during group time is “how to you treat or play with others?” This theme is continued throughout the books that we have been reading to the children such as Sam and Charlie’s I’m Sorry Day, The Dot, and The Littlest Fish. The children have also been continuously exposed to the symbols of the recent holidays, particularly the shofar as we have a real one and a toy version around the room for the children to explore and the children also did an art project involving a shofar. We have also introduced patterning to the children through small manipulatives that can be stuck together to create AB or AABB patterns. This also develops their fine motor skills as the materials require a steady hand and a good grasp to click them together. During centers time the children were very interested in our fall exploration table with objects such as pumpkins, squash, pine cones and fall books as well as magnifying glasses to make comparisons and observations. This allowed the students review adjectives and various vocabulary that helps them articulate their thoughts. During group time we have been doing collaborative work on puzzles and retelling stories to work on comprehension. Our group discussions of how we treat one another has been very rewarding as we see the children applying these values when playing with one another. Thank you to Eli and his family for joining us for Shabbat and bringing the fruit and food for the children. Reminders: We have havdalah on Monday morning so please be on time as we have to leave the classroom shortly after drop off. There is no school next Thursday October 5th or Friday October 6th in observance of Sukkot and a professional development day. Shabbat Shalom
