Dear Parents,
Happy Hanukkah! We are so glad that everybody was safe last week, and we were able to come back together this week for fantastic Hanukkah filled days! The children reviewed patterning as they designed, sketched and put together their Hanukkiyot to take home. We had so many varieties of jewels in many shapes and colors, so each child could be unique. The children also dipped dreidels in paint and spun them on paper to create dreidel splatter art. This strengthens their fine motor skills as the children tightly grip the dreidel and use a snapping motion to make it spin. The children reviewed their shapes as they designed and decorated triangles turning them into a star of David. They then used their knowledge of shapes to draw portraits of themselves, which are in the center of their stars of David. We also worked on fine motor development when the children used small beads to create patterns hanging on strings from the bottom of these star of David decorations. Thank you to everybody for attending our Hanukkah party! Reminder, we are on winter vacation for two weeks and return to school Tuesday January 2nd. Have a happy Hanukkah, a happy new year and we look forward to seeing everybody in 2018. Shabbat Shalom, Room 14 teachers
