This week our focus has been on the upcoming holiday of Purim. Purim is a happy and joyous holiday, when we are told to rejoice and be especially happy.
We have been telling the story of Purim to the children and explaining the meaning and importance of each character. We also experienced the story by watching a puppet show which was very entertaining to the children. We have focused on the importance of respect and accepting others. Haman wanted to get rid of the Jewish people just because Mordechai did not bow down to him. The children declared that it was not “nice” or “ok” for him to want to get rid of the Jewish people just for that. They also mentioned that it was not ok for Haman to force Mordechai to bow down. This ties in to the values that we often discuss. We were able to compare the story of Purim to our everyday play when someone wants their friend to do something. The children realized that it is not ok and that the other friend feels really sad when forced to do something. Purim is next Tuesday, and we will have a celebration here at school. Please send your child in a costume. We ask that there be no weapons or masks for safety reasons. Don’t forget the Purim carnival here on campus on Sunday, rides for all and food. Hope to see you there. Anne and Bam
