This week we had a visit from Dr. Kaplan, from our USC Bridge Curriculum. We are focusing on teaching the class how to speak and describe something that they see or touch. The curriculum is designed to help the teachers guide the children in building vocabulary and skills to observe, feel and describe items. They learn to sort or identify things according to what they see and feel. For example, in a basket with different items such as balls, small and big, blocks and cubes, the children picked an item that they were interested in. We then asked open-ended questions that encouraged the child to really observe and think about the item they picked. Most picked a ball and then they were able to compare them with smaller or bigger ones, different textures, colors or even materials they were made of. They were also able to classify these items according to their differences and similarities.
Dr. Kaplan was impressed with the dynamics of the classroom and the expressive language that the children used. She enjoyed spending time in our class, and she will be back to visit soon. We would like to thank everyone for sending toiletries and for coming to Generations Day. We hope you enjoyed your time with your children. Our Purim service will be March 10, please send your child in a costume. Sunday March 8th is the Purim carnival here at school. Shabbat Shalom
