Shabbat Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families.
This week we celebrated Tu B’Shvat along with the other Pre K classes. Teacher Vera talked about the trees and we had a discussion about the importance of trees. The Ulpanon Bet children preformed the song “The Citrus” in front of the other Pre K children. In the class, each child took home dried fruit or “perot Yeveshim” of their choice. They chose from: dates- “tmarim”, cranberries-“Hamootsiyot” bananas- “bananaot” and apples-“Tapoochim.” Using all of our senses, we discussed fruit and specifically ones in the citrus family such as: a pomelo, grapefruit, orange, tangerine and lemon. The children discovered similarities between the fruits such as their shape being round round, belonging to the same family and having a peel, They also identified differences such as their colors, thickness of their peel and taste, specifically some are more sour. We worked on a journal page about Martin Luther King Jr. Day and shared our own dream or wish. They will be posted on our wall for you to enjoy. This week, Sigalit, Hayli’s mom, Shoreh, Aiden’s mom and Sharona, Gabriel’s mom came to the library with us where we read: “The Big Hungry Bear” written by Don and Audry Woods, “Snow Friends” by Christina Butler and “Dogs Don’t Do Ballet” by Anna Kemp. On Thursday, we had Torah Time with Rabbi Josh. We went to the synagogue where Rabbi Josh opened the Ark and took the Torah out. He opened it so we could see the portion where the 10 Commandments are written. We listened as he read the Commandments and we had a discussion about “kavod” or respect. The Rabbi had child volunteers helping him open the Ark, take the dressing off the Torah and redress it to return it. It was a really special moment, which we enjoyed. This week was Emma’s special Shabbat! Her grandmother, Miriam, is here visiting from Israel and was our special guest. We so enjoyed meeting her! Thank you Sigalit, Hayli’s mom, for coming to our classroom and baking snowman and umbrella shaped cookies “eesh Sheleg” and“mitriya.” A special thanks to Layne, Brooks mom, for bringing citrus fruit for our various discussions. We are asking our families to bring a portrait photo (face) of each child’s father or grandfather or uncle. We will utilize it in a very special way, which you will see during our Father/Grandfather Week. Reminders:
Warmly, Talia and Meirav
