It was a short week filled with a lot activity. We started the week with Music and excitement to be back in school. The children came in talking about their Tuesday outing in Century City to see the Lego movie all together. It was so nice to hear that Leo’s mom organized a group afternoon with the entire class invited to join. This is just another way of showing what a cohesive family room 2 is.
As cold as it was on Monday, we braved it and played on the Pre-K yard bundled up in our winter coats. Even the teachers had to admit that they were chilled to the bone. Returning to the room to warm up, we played a cozy game of Number BINGO and Letter Sound BINGO. The children paired up helping each other keep an eye on their cards and putting down markers. A few weeks ago, our class walked around the campus looking at the school buildings, gardens, sanctuary, Katz Pavillion etc. The children really like the Rock Garden with the painted rocks made by the elementary school students and asked about their making their own rock garden. So begins our next Art Center Experience. We have painted the rocks with a base color this week and next week we will talk about a theme for our rock garden. The garden will be a part of our Wise Community 3D map. The children asked about asking Mr. Meth in project studio to help us with this map. Maybe we can even build it in the studio. We have begun talking about Purim, telling the story slowly, for the children to understand the different parts of the story and how they fit together. We will be baking Hamantashen in class and would love a parent volunteer or 2 to help us. We are also making Kreplach, an Ashkenazi triangle shaped dumpling filled with meat. We will be using Kosher ground beef/turkey meat. If you don’t want your child to taste, please give us a heads up. Each year in the winter, the entire Pre-K begins to introduce our Handwriting Without Tears program. This award-winning Pre-K curriculum is developmentally appropriate and designed so that all children can thrive and build a strong foundation for kindergarten. This program uses music and movement to engage children and help them develop good learning habits. Children learn actively as they play, color, draw, count, build, and sing. We’ll be teaching your child to: · Develop social-emotional skills to support learning · Build physical coordination, strength, and crayon grip · Recognize letters and numbers · Learn habits for writing capitals and numbers (Start at the top!) · Ask and answer questions · Build vocabulary · More… Your children will learn important readiness, early writing, literacy, and math skills. These potentially complex subjects will be broken down into simpler tasks that develop on what children already know. This way, they can master skills one step at a time as they build lifelong learning habits. Starting next Tuesday and every week afterwards, we will be going to Yoga for a half hour. We are so excited. The children that came last summer all participated in Yoga with this instructor and she was wonderful. Now we have PE Monday, Yoga Tuesday, Music Wednesday, Rabbi Josh S’Torah Thursday and last but certainly not least Challah baking and Shabbat on Friday. Our week is filled with special time, learning while playing and making lasting friendships with our peers. Shabbat this week we welcome Anja’s family and Liam’s family. Having so many special guests joining our room 2 family makes Shabbat so much sweeter for all.
