Back to school and another Holiday to celebrate joyously. Our room has been very busy building with boxes, scissors and colored tape. The children started out talking about building Sukkot, but they left that idea behind as they brainstormed more ideas in small groups. Their ideas grew as they discussed, and we observed them making compromises with their own visions as new possibilities emerged.
It was chilly outside on Tuesday, but that didn’t stop us from building with Legos in the Sukkah. We also decorated the Sukkah with stars and fruit. One of the children braved the early morning fog and chill to help hang the decorations. The children made a video to send to Room 9 and we invited them to our Sukkah for snack on Wednesday. We talked about the Mitzvah of welcoming guests to our Sukkah and having meals. We always need to have food as we celebrate. On Wednesday we had music for the first time with Maestro Kates. We did a lot of movement and singing. The children enjoyed getting to meet Maestro Kates and they are looking forward to a lot more music time. On Thursday with had Rabbi Josh for STorah time with room 7. We did our STorah time in the Sukkah on the Pre-K patio yard. Our class brought snacks to share with the Rabbi and room 7. As part of our closing circle we invited room 1 to visit our room and listen to a book. It was, "Watermelon in the Sukkah". Amazing how many suggestions our children had trying to figure out how to hang a watermelon from the roof of the Sukkah. Believe it or not, we had to switch gears from Sukkot to Simchat Torah on Thursday. We wanted our flags to be ready for our celebration next Tuesday! The children stood in a semi-circle in our room as we unrolled the Torah and they held it very carefully and helped to roll it up. You can see the picture of this on the Weebly picture gallery. Shabbat is here and as it has become our tradition, we start our day with Challah baking. Dobi went home with Teacher Ren for Shabbat. We are looking forward to hearing about his adventures at her home with her daughter Nora.
