We have finished our 8th week of school and we have grown so much in such a short time. Room 2 has become Chefs, Artists, Chemists, Architects and so much more.
We started the week off with PE and the children were so excited. It had been a while since our last PE. Coach Danny was happy to see us. We practiced rolling and aiming soft soccer balls. Later in the year we will work on our soccer skills, coach Danny said. We read the book, “Leaf Man” the week prior. This week we used our imaginations and made our own Leaf Men and our personal stories about them. The Leaf Men are hanging up outside the room. Take some time to read the stories. During quite time we made Gak as a group. Observing changes from glue and water to Gak was mesmerizing to the children. They all got their hands elbow deep in the mixture. It was hard work using their muscles to squish together the liquid and glue. The following day we did a lot of Gak play. We tried to stretch it across small jars and figure out how and why it all gets trapped underneath, and what causes it to bubble up. As we put light objects on the Gak over the jar the bubble grew and grew until it all sank down. It was also fun to bury objects under the Gak and watch it mold around the buttons, beads, and rocks. It is a treasure hunt. We have begun our Thanksgiving conversations. Room 1 joined us for 2 Thanksgiving books. We discussed leaving places you know and coming to a new land. We also talked about learning to help others by teaching them new things, i.e. how to grow vegetables and hunt for food. We are also talking about the things we are thankful for. Here are some of our answers. Chloe: Sharing toys with everyone Taylor: Having sisters Blake: All my friends in the world Noah: Cars Anja: Dad Sebastian: Toys to play with Anderson: My sister Leo: My Dog Liam: My sister Dior: Having fun with my friends Maximus: My family We are noticing that the children love to play BINGO. We are still playing the game until everyone wins. We are all about building confidence and helping each other. The children all help each other recognize numbers, upper-case and lower-case letters and letter sounds. Thank you to Leo and his mom for joining us and reading to us during Library time. We had a lot of fun reading the books that Leo picked out. Rabbi Josh talked about Abraham and G-d. Room 9 and 2 told him how we see G-d and where G-d is all the time. So many of the children said all around us. They even stumped the Rabbi with the question about how G-d created the world. Next week we are on to Gravity and Physics. Thursday, as we were getting ready to leave for the day, the children reminded us that Friday was coming and we need to bake our Challah. We hope you are enjoying the Challah that comes home with your children. Just 2 more Shabbatot and we will begin our Family Shabbat Visits. We know the children are excited. We are looking forward to seeing everyone during Parent Conferences. Please come with any or all of your questions.
