Dear Parents,
What a wonderful week it's been, learning, exploring, and most of all, realizing how lucky all of us are. We spent this week discussing the holiday of Thanksgiving, learning about the Pilgrims, and Native American art. As the children talk about things they are thankful for, we discover that there is a way to bring Judaism into our observance of Thanksgiving. It is a great time to teach the important values and realize that Judaism views every day as a day of Thanksgiving, every day is a chance to say "thank you." Thanksgiving and every day, brings great opportunity to practice being Mindful. The children spent the week learning about Native American artwork, the different symbols and the patterns that are created. They engaged in a cooperative art project by drawing patterns on tongue depressors and then arranging them together to create a beautiful wall hanging. In the Science Center, the children explored different artifacts and fossils. They looked at bones and different size Arrowheads and became aware of the differences. A fossil, the bone, is the remains of something that was once living, an artifact, the Arrowhead, is something that is made. They also learned that Arrowheads were used by the Native Americans for tools. As we introduce the concept of "Like," and "Different," using real objects, helps the learning experience be more concrete. Next week we will continue to explore many more exciting things. We celebrated Shabbat at the Temple and enjoyed stories with Rabbi Josh, a nice way to end the week. Thank you to the Ghiyam family for joining us, and making the day more memorable.
