Dear Parents,
It was such a pleasure meeting with you all this week and sharing and learning about your children. The children started off the week learning how to play Rolling Dodgeball in P.E. with Coach Danny. What a great activity that helps develop their Gross Motor skills. Two basic skills for the children to practice are rolling and catching a ball. This may seem simple enough and most children have the rolling part down, but the catching part is always a little trickier. Rolling games that teach using both hands and keeping the ball in front work really well for this age group. During the game the children had to practice following directions and paying attention. Playing Rolling Dodgeball helps build teamwork, increase agility and balance, and improve hand-eye coordination. Overall, the game was a huge success and the children had a blast. After P.E, the children took a beautiful nature walk around the Temple. The biggest benefit of getting outside in nature is to enjoy the variety and creativity found in the natural world. The children found many different natural materials, such as tree bark, pine cones, leaves, twigs and much more. This was a wonderful opportunity to develop their observation skills and use all their five senses. When we returned to the classroom, the children took all their objects and put them on the table. They had the opportunity to investigate what they got and begin to sort and classify them into their groups. By sorting, children understand that things are alike and different as well as that they can belong and be organized into certain groups. Getting practice with sorting at an early age is important for numerical concepts and grouping numbers and sets when they're older. For the last step of this lesson, the children took their natural materials and created patterns out of them. They picked their pattern, glued it on a piece of wood, and the result was a piece of stunning art work. We continued to extend the learning throughout the week by pointing out patterns when we were outside. The leaves on the trees, or the way the cars were parked in the parking lot, all were used as teachable moments for pattern exploration. We ended the week celebrating Shabbat. Thank you to the Yroshalmiane family for joining us and making the day more memorable. Shabbat Shalom, Lindsay & Vera REMINDERS: Nov. 5Th- Mitzvah Day Nov. 6th-10th- Wise School Book Fair Nov. 7th.
