Dear Parents, We hope everyone had a nice break and a Happy New Year! The children have had a great week and have been very busy telling us all about their travels and the time off spent with family and friends. We're discussing in class about love and friendship, and how all friends should be treated equally. This led us into learning all about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, the class learned about his life and his dream (wish), and about the way people should be treated. One of the beautiful things about children is that color, cultural differences, and even language usually don't phase them. We use the word "phase" because children are very observant, so they do notice the differences. By teaching them when they are young that accepting and celebrating the differences is a way of life, it will have a lasting impression on their own life and others around them. The children listened to Dr. Kings speech, "I Have A Dream," and learned how powerful words can be used to help people understand ideas. The words we emphasized the most were, "Peace", "Love," and "Together." In small groups, the children sat down and discussed their dreams (wishes) for the world. In order to further develop this, the children were given black pieces of paper and drew pictures of what they thought "Peace," "Love," and "Together," looked like. Their colorful drawings were filled with hearts, rainbows, flowers, and peace signs. We look forward to celebrating Dr. King next week. As always, Shabbat was a nice time for everyone to come together. We thank the Moradzadeh family for joining us and making the day more memorable.
