Tu B' Shevat was our focus for the week as we celebrated the birthday of the trees on Monday and what a great time we had exploring the trees and all the plant life mother nature has to offer! We celebrated with lots of fun, hands on sensory experiences and the children were so excited to take part. We planted seeds, watched them sprout, tasted all types of fruit and their seeds and observed the texture of leaves and tree branches up close with a magnifying glass.
But our favorite activities had to be the cooking and tasting as all of your little ones just love snacking on sweet treats! We made cupcakes, taking turns to pour the mix into a bowl, adding eggs, then measuring oil and water and stirring till the batter was done. Everyone participated! After baking the cupcakes, each child mixed their own white frosting with green food color and used a popsicle stick to frost them. Delicious! We also had peaches, pears, oranges, apples & even lemons to taste. The children described what they saw, tasted and touched. We removed the seeds and planted them in a pot that is now outside of our classroom door. We will give it water and watch it everyday to see if it has sprouted. Please take a look as you come in each morning. We finished our week with even more fun at Shabbat services and painting. The children were so enthusiastic about their painting and what a beautiful work of art they created! The painting, titled "Fixing the Car" will be sold at the upcoming Wise Gala (on February 27th) auction so look out for it! Shabbat Shalom & Enjoy your Weekend, Anita, Sue & Dianna
