Dear parents of room 20,
This was an exciting week in room 20 as we got to overlap our lessons about winter and begin talking about Tu B’Shevat. The children have become more and more interested in the library and the various books that we have about winter and the animals that live in cold environments. We read these books at story time and had discussions about the weather using vocabulary such as hot, cold, ice, hail and rain. The children used rollers and large gross motor movements to paint our mirror with stencils of trees in honor of Tu B’Shevat approaching soon. The children did painting in plastic bags for fine motor control as they pushed the paint around with their fingers. The students have been exposed to numbers through our peg toys and have begun practicing counting and even some basic number recognition. They so much enjoyed having the tracks and cars on the carpet as well as the farm houses. We love seeing how the children use their imagination in so many different ways. We had music with teacher Andrew, who always brings materials and instruments for the children to explore and expand their imagination, such as using scarves as a car wheel or tails on a horse. The children were able to decorate their own kippot using droppers for fine motor control for them to wear during Havdalah and Shabbat services. It was so wonderful to have Elijah be Shabbat boy and for his family to have joined us this week. Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing everybody on Monday.
