We started off the week with cold, wet weather. The children were inside where it was warm and dry, and they did enjoy listening to and watching the rain fall.
The children spent some quiet time in the Library on Monday listening to stories and choosing books of their own to look through. All the indoor time has really given us a chance to work on our sharing, counting, color recognition, patterning and comparing and contrasting with black and white. The peg boards are a great example of how the children are able to work on these developmental skills, building their abilities to recognize one to one correspondence, which is important in math, addition and subtraction concepts as well as left to right progressions (necessary for reading). Many of the children enjoyed playing with the friends from room 23. We also, enjoyed baking blueberry muffin cake this week. When cooking the children are able to gain a better understanding of volume and measurements as well as whole to part relationships, all which are very important skills needed for math. We have continued to discuss the holiday of Tu B’Shevat, read books and sang songs too. Talking about trees and where to find them along with all the rain this past week has progressed into an introduction to rainforests. Over the next several weeks we will explore the many facets of rainforest. Taking extra time to delve deep into rainforest that have volcanos in them. We enjoyed a lovely Shabbat with Aharon, his mom and brothers. During Temple we enjoyed singing Shabbat songs while Ditza played her guitar and listened to Rabbi Josh tells us a story.
