We hope everyone managed the rain over the long weekend. The children were very excited to be back at school with no rain on Wednesday. This gave us a great opportunity to revisit a rainbow discussion that started last week. The children discussed the colors of a rainbow and learned the acronym ROY-G-BIV for the sequence of hues commonly described as making up a rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. They also enjoyed painting to create a rainbow in the class, one to add to our wall.
During center time, the children enhanced their development with matching various color-shaped buttons to their pictures, allowing them an opportunity to further develop their logical reasoning skills. During a round of colors and shapes bingo, the children were very excited to call out the various shapes and colors they had on their boards, and without even knowing it, the children are forming geometric skills for future math learning. Many of the children enjoyed working with rubber-bands this week. They would stretch them and place them on nail boards, creating various shapes on the boards. This not only provided a way for the children to experiment with the sizing of various shapes, but it also challenged them to think strategically and plan for which rubber bands would allow them to make various sized shapes. As you all know we had a visit from the Hair Wizards this week. The process went smoothly and all of the children sat beautifully while their hair was checked.
