This has been a lovely week with visits from the mommies and grandmothers in honor of Mother’s Day. The children were very excited to make and put together their Mother’s Day gifts.
We enjoyed starting off the week with an all school Havdalah service in Plotkin Chapel. It truly was a beautiful way to come together and welcome each other back at school. The children have been so excited to come to class Monday mornings to check on our tadpoles. The waiting has been difficult but, very much a learning experience. The learning from the transformation of the tadpoles into frogs is giving the children a great opportunity to develop the skill of having patience. Patience teaches children the value of delaying gratification, a skill necessary for maturity. Patience helps develop their ability to think through and resolve problems; it can also counteract impulsivity. The children are also learning resilience, self-containment, and the ability to self-soothe all qualities that are needed for emotional maturity allowing them to succeed later on in school and life. We also celebrated Yom Ha’atzmaut this week, the children loved learning that the Israeli flag has two blue strips and a star in the center of it and that the star is called the Star of David. We were very busy preparing for our celebrations of Israel’s 71st birthday listening to stories and singing songs. Thursday we traveled through Israel. Each classroom in the Hoffman building was set up with a different themed activity. The children enjoyed the airplane room, farm room, Jerusalem/Wailing Wall room, doctor’s office and a kitchen/ market/dining room. After that we enjoyed tasting all the delicious foods of Israel and singing Happy Birthday. We enjoyed a lovely Shabbat in the classroom all together as well as in the Temple with all of the EC, mothers and grandmothers. During Temple we sang along with Ditza and watched the Rabbis, Cantor Emma and Ditza preform. Shabbat Shalom & Happy Mother’s Day T & T
