This week was a busy and yummy one. We finished up our study of rainbows and color with tasting the rainbow. The children were excited to bring in their fruit and vegetable they chose to share with the class. As each child came into class, they had to place their food on the matching color circle. After all the colors arrived our table looked almost too beautiful to eat, but the children were ready to taste. We first began with the fruit on Wednesday and went in order of the rainbow-- red first, orange second and so on. After tasting each fruit, we took a vote to see which fruits were liked the most and the least. The fruit were easy, everyone liked everything the most, especially all the berries, and the bell peppers were liked the least. On Thursday we tasted the vegetables in the same way. This time it was a bit harder. Many of the children have never tried some of the vegetables that we tasted. Again, we had a vote, kale and yellow squash were liked the most and beets and eggplant were liked the least. After we collected our data, we created a chart so that others can see what we did and how we did it. This was not only a fun lesson on rainbows and color but also brought us back to learning through our senses, this time taste.
