We are so excited to have started Yoga this week! From now on, we will have yoga class every Tuesday with Rock Zen Roll. We are so impressed by the participation in our first ever class. In yoga class, we first danced and wiggled to get all our energy out. We then worked with breathing balls, where we expanded the ball as we inhaled, and compressed the ball as we exhaled. Then we went on our "yoga adventure." This week we flew to Australia and met koalas, kangaroos, and other animals. Each animal had a corresponding yoga pose and song, and everyone tried to copy the pose. We ended with a relaxation, lying on our backs. We loved the class and can't wait for more.
Yoga teaches body and spatial awareness, as the children have to focus on their body to perform the different poses (bend your knees, reach your arms up to the sky, come to your hands and knees). They have to integrate their mind and body in order to follow these directions, and they learn how to move their body to perform the poses. They also build their strength! We also love that it helps to learn self regulation. How often do we ask children to feel their breath go in and out? The support of the breathing ball helps them to understand how breathing feels in their body. As the ball expands, we inhale and feel our lungs expand. As we compress the ball inwards, we blow the air out. Everyone participated in the final relaxation, where we rested our bodies by laying on the ground-- we were so thrilled to see how everyone was able to rest their body after having so much fun. Introducing these easy tools can help children develop healthy habits when they encounter disappointment, sadness, anger, etc. We had a wonderful birthday celebration for Charlotte on Thursday and a beatuiful Shabbat with the Kashani family. Lastly, congratulations to the Younessi family on their baby girl Haley! We know Liam will be a caring and loving big brother! Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend. Julia and Marcela Reminders: This Saturday, March 2, is Tot Shabbat. No School March 4. Beit Issie Farmers Market is next Friday, March 8.
