This week in room 24, we have continued our discussions and explorations of the holiday of Passover. The children have been learning the story about the mean King Pharaoh and Moses living in Egypt. We count to 10 to talk about the plagues and how frogs were everywhere! We are excited to share the story and songs with you at our Passover Seder on Wednesday, April 5th. The children have been learning new vocabulary such as: Haggadah: the special book we read from during Passover that retells the story. Pharaoh: the mean King who would not the Jewish people go. Egypt: a place far away where the Jewish people lived, there are pyramids there! Afikoman: the matzah dessert that is hidden during the seder, and eaten as dessert at the end of the meal. Dayenu- Hebrew word for ‘enough for us’ that is the name of the song sung at the seder that tells of all the miracles God performed for the Jewish people. It has been such a treat to have our baby chicks in the classroom. There are three chicks that are active, eating, playing and chirping all day long. They have grown up so fast! Here is the link to watch the first egg that hatched on Friday, March 17th. https://video.nest.com/clip/eb1d3ad0e4ff4b56bc50b0fa4d15711d.mp4 On Thursday, we had our weekly baking activity. The children enjoyed mixing, measuring, pouring and scooping all the ingredients to make organic chocolate chip cookies. We were lucky to bake them and enjoy them for snack along with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes. On Thursday, we also went on an adventure. We walked along the construction site and heard the machines and construction workers building the building. We walked near the garden and found a great view to observe the construction. We saw excavators, fork lifts, jackhammers and other tools being used. While exploring the garden, we got to smell fresh mint and fresh celery. We also saw flowers and strawberries blooming in the garden! On Monday, we will collect food for our Passover SOVA drive, and we will visit our first ever SOVA market! Please send your child to school with an item to donate to the SOVA bin for Passover. We will visit the SOVA market on Witzman Court as a class to donate these items. Items to include can be: Kosher for Passover canned goods, macaroons, Kosher for Passover Cereal, Matza, Gefilte Fish. Please visit the market yourself to make a donation or to pick up a SOVA bag to then bring back and donate in our temple SOVA bin.
