Dear Parents, It's amazing how much progress we have seen in the past two weeks. Your children are learning so many new and important skills. They are learning to ask for help from a teacher, to wait their turn while another friend is playing with a toy or doll they REALLY want, they are learning to be part of a group, and they are learning about personal space. They are all doing so well! This week we have been easing into a routine, every day adding a little bit more to it. We have been working on standing in a line to wash our hands, cleaning up after snack, and joining friends for circle, to name just a few pieces of the overall structure of the school day. The children have been enjoying sitting together during snack and lunch, but don’t be alarmed if they don’t always eat their lunch, since they are also building their social skills during this time. We have been enjoying the beautiful warm Southern California weather by playing outside. One of the children’s favorite outdoor activities is playing with the water: pouring it into various containers, window washing, car wash, watering the plants and using it to make sandcastles in the sandbox. As your children play in the sand, they are learning important skills. Sand play encourages socialization, communication, sharing ideas, sharing space, and when playing in a group, it encourages taking turns. We had various manipulatives out, different colored animals and small toys that the children sorted by color in a corresponding bowl, building towers and structures with magnetiles, and taking school bus and car rides on the carpet with the toys. The children have loved our housekeeping corner, wrapping the babies in blankets, and making delicious meals in the kitchen, working on their imaginative play. We took the children on a walk to explore our campus, and we ended up near the library. There, we discovered the leaves on the ground, the birds in the air and all kinds of interesting sounds. Wishing you all a peaceful weekend, and a safe and meaningful fast.
