This week, your children were very busy working on many skills, especially their fine motor skills. They learned how to stick pipe cleaners into styrofoam by realizing that it works better when they hold the pipe cleaner closer to the bottom instead of at the top. This will help them later to learn that they have better control over a pencil when they hold it closer to the tip- such an important academic skill to practice. This activity also helps strengthen their grip as they continue drawing with markers and crayons. On Tuesday, we baked banana bread. As we added ingredients, we saw how the consistency of the batter changed and learned to follow directions closely. This also helps with fine motor skills, as they had to control the tools we used so as not to make a mess. Best of all, we got to eat our banana bread after lunch! We are also beginning to use magnets. The children used the magnet to move pieces of pipe cleaner around the tray. We will continue to explore with different materials in the coming weeks. We are looking forward to our conference-conversations on Thursday. Please think about your goals for your child as we move forward with our school year!
