This week we had the pleasure of spending time with the other First steps classes. On Monday, we sang the blessings for havdallah, separating Shabbat from the new week. We gathered together to sing and learn about the smelling of spices, the braided candle, and wine. We also learned a new song, wishing our friends a shavua tov. It was a wonderful way to start our week. On Thursday we all joined together again for a holiday feast. One class made matzah ball soup, another class made pumpkin muffins, and we made cut-out sugar cookies. Here, we were able to implement the skills we have learned when playing with play dough. Throughout the year, we have put out different tools with which to manipulate play dough, one of the most popular being cookie cutters. Especially around Hanukkah time, the children would cut out dreidels, stars and Hanukkiahs to gift to each other. In keeping with that theme, we rolled out the sugar cookie dough, cut out shapes, and decorated them with sprinkles. We discussed that this time, we would put our shapes in the oven to make cookies. Then we brought them to our feast and shared our hard work with new friends. You can see in the pictures how the different classes integrated and all sat together. We had a special Shabbat this week with the whole school, which was the perfect way to send off before our break. We hope you enjoy quality time with family and friends this break. We will miss you! Shabbat Shalom and Happy New Year. See you January 7th. Julia and Marcela If you are looking for ways to continue all of the important learning and skill-building during the break, here are some things we do in the classroom that can be easily done at home: -Cutting tape and paper with scissors -Lacing (making necklaces) -Play dates- keep the friendships going! -Painting -Building with blocks -Climbing and bike-riding -Play dough
