Our week has been short and sweet. Our friends were excited to come back to school on Wednesday. They were excited to see each other and also happy to play together. As they said their goodbyes to their moms, we realized just how independent they have become. A favorite part of our day in Room 25 is circle time. We gather together at the end of the day and share information, sing songs, and do flannel stories. As we sit together in a group we practice taking turns, speaking, listening and being respectful to our friends. It’s sometimes hard to wait until your animal is called as we do “Brown Bear, Brown Bear.” It also hard when you don’t get the animal that you had hoped for. Yet, our friends are learning valuable lessons. They are learning to be patient and learning that maybe next time they will get what they were hoping for. We sometimes sing about what are friends are wearing. We go around the circle and each friend chooses what he or she would like to sing about. Initially, they all sang about their shoes, now they are singing about heart shirts, striped shirts, hats, bows, no shoes, blue shoes, boots, pants. They feel so proud of themselves! And we are so proud of them, as well.
