This week we introduced the letter M. The kids have been excited about this letter because the word moon starts with the letter M. All week we heard the kids excited when they heard a word that began with the letter M and they would say it out loud with pride.
We started to explore our planets in 3D. We blew up balloons with the similar size difference from one another. We explored the difference in sizes and realized that some are similar in size. After we blew up the balloons the kids ripped newspaper into strips. They love being a part of the whole process and this helps strengthen their small motor skills as well. They got to take turns mixing flour and water to make our paste to make the newspaper stick and harden onto the balloon. They saw and felt the mixture while putting it on the balloon. The next day when we continued with more of the planets, they were able to feel the difference in the texture now that some of them have started to dry and harden. Once all the planets have been made and dried, we can begin to paint them, so we have the 3D planets next to the 2D planets they made a couple of weeks ago. As we are making these planets 3D, we are also singing our songs and reading more in depth about each planet. Each day the children have more and more questions about the planets. We are looking and researching together more about the planets, so we can learn that each one has different characteristics to them. Purim is right around the corner. Before we look into the story of Purim, we are looking into our Wise Learning Process curriculum and looking at “Multiple Perspectives”. We are looking at different perspectives of characters in well-known stories. We looked at the 3 Little Pigs. We read a book on the perspective of the Beast in Beauty and the Beast. While we look at the perspectives of characters in well-known stories, we are talking about characteristic traits of these characters and thinking about our own that make us individuals. We will read many more stories like this so that when we talk about Purim, we can pull out characteristics within the characters in the Purim story. We will look at the perspective within each character. They really love looking at the stories they already know and seeing that each character thinks the story was just a little bit different depending on their perspective. We enjoyed our first time in the Yoga Studio this week. Every Tuesday, Room 7 will join a yoga instructor in the studio inside our gorgeous gym and lead us in 30 minutes of kid’s yoga. Wow! The kids absolutely loved it. They were calm, great listeners and really took in everything she was saying. They enjoyed this time and we can’t express enough how important mindful meditation in any way is for kids at this age. We cannot wait to visit every Tuesday afternoon. We enjoyed a presentation from a dad in Room 1 on Recycling. He showed us pictures and brought examples of recycled items and we know what happens to these materials once we recycle them. The kids were extremely interested and can’t wait to see them recycle more in the classroom and at home. Our chicks hatched right before our eyes!!!! Don’t forget to click on the link we sent you in an e-mail, so you can watch throughout the weekend. We made hallah dough again from scratch. We can’t wait to taste how delicious the hallah is. We hope you all have a nice Shabbat with family and friends. We will see you at school on Tuesday. We started to work with loose parts. We put out a bunch of materials at a table and the kids flocked to them. It was amazing to see their creativity with these items. We can't wait to explore more in depth.
