We started the week together cozy in our pajamas. We came in and went right to centers around the classroom. They have been into puzzles and will sit there until it is all put together. They enjoyed exploring the magnets at the science center where they came up with new exploration of what magnets can do. After we went around to centers we joined together on the rug and introduced the next letter. We went from the letter P, to the letter B. They recognized it and learned the movement and sound that goes with B. We then put them up to a challenge and asked if they recognized the letters we have already explored and if they remembered the movement and sounds. It was amazing to see that they remembered all of them and how proud they were that they did!
We introduced Passover, we started by asking them what they already knew about the holiday. “Passover is when you taste new food.” “We eat matzah and not bread.” “Matzah is square.” “Matzah is harder than bread.” “We dip parsley in salt water.” “We eat eggs.” It seemed like they had a lot to learn and they are excited to explore this holiday. Then we had them ask questions about what they wanted to know about the holiday. “I want to know what we do.” “I want to know if we can play on Passover.” “I want to know what we eat.” “I want to know where we put the food on the Seder plate.” “I want to know what Passover is.” “Where do we go for Passover?” “I want to know what food we put on the table.” It was very nice meeting with all of you this week to discuss the progress your children have made. We are very lucky to spend every day with them and enjoyed spending time with all of you to share with you how much they have grown and tell you fun stories about your children during the school day. In the art center we set up some clay. We know how much they love playing with clay and since we are beginning talk about Passover and how the slaves were told to build pyramids and work hard, we thought it would be fun to build our own bricks. When they sat down, a few of them said this was just like what we did to make our Hanukkiahs. They enjoyed rolling the clay out in their hands and then forming different shapes to make bricks. This clay is not too soft and not too hard, but just enough so they are working on strengthening their fine motor skills a bit. P.E. was a lot of fun this week! We got to use the volleyball nets in the gym and practice hitting the ball over the net or just hitting it up for ourselves. The kids enjoyed using a beachball, soft volleyball, or even the volleyballs that the older elementary school kids used. They were running all around the gym hitting all the balls up in the air. They enjoyed this and cannot wait to do it again next week and show coach how well they can hit the ball. The kids sat patiently and inventively when we told the Passover story in detail. They got into it and were asking a lot of questions. They even raised their hand when they remembered part of the story and wanted to share what they knew. We look forward to talking more in depth about Passover and learning the meaning behind the holiday as well as some fun stories that go along with it. Next week we will be doing a fun messy activity outside with dirt, sand and straw. We will be doing this on Monday and ask that you send your child in shorts so that they can experience this activity to the fullest. Thank you in advance.
