We hope you all enjoyed some time in the book fair. The kids really enjoyed the pajama day and dressing up like a fun book character. What an amazing way to connect to a book. Thank you for contributing to our class library by donating books to our classroom. We enjoyed reading them with the class. Hanukkah is right around the corner. We have been extremely busy in our classroom preparing for the holiday. We started a week or so ago with our clay and rolling each piece into a ball to not only make part of our Hanukkiah, but strengthen our muscles in our hands. This project took many steps and the kids have been involved in the whole process. We loved watching each step and talking in depth about the wet clay being put into the kiln to be fired. They noticed the change in texture and color. After the first time it went in the kiln we painted them. They were then put back in the kiln and we noticed the colors change once again. We can’t wait for you all to see the finished products! This is a nice gift they made for their families for the holiday that they can talk about and share their experience. We have talked in depth about Hanukkah being the festival of lights. We are focusing on what light gives us and the importance of light. We made stained glass dreidels that we can enjoy on the window of our classroom and look at the light peeking into our classroom. We decided to focus on the letter “H” this week. Since Hanukkah is next week, it fit perfectly with the letter H. We used the “Big Line” and “Little Line” from our Handwriting without tears program to make the letter H. We also were able to use these lines to make Hanukkiot with a pattern or colors they enjoyed. We are very busy making connections between the letters in the alphabet and how to form them to the projects we are doing in the classroom. We learned how to play the dreidel game. We went over the rules and talked about how this can be a math game as well. Spinning the dreidel takes practice. It also strengthens those small muscles in their hands. They really enjoyed playing the game. They cannot wait to go home during Hanukkah and play with their families. After working with the dreidels a little bit, they took the dreidels and dipped them into paint. After they chose their color they got to spin the dreidel with paint on it on a paper the shape of a dreidel. They loved watching it spin around and make a cool design from how their dreidel spun. They were laughing, giggling and having a blast. Shabbat Shalom, Rachel and Linda Reminders: -Classroom Hanukkah party (parents included) December 4th at 9:15 right after drop off!
