This week we started off learning a new letter. We focused on the letter “I” this week. We learned that it is a vowel and has two sounds. We learned the sounds, how to form it and even practiced rolling the letter out and using the chalkboard for the wet dry practice using our Handwriting Without Tears program.
Instrument starts with the letter I. We continued our emergent curriculum and focused on some instruments this week to go with the letter of the week. The kids have been asking a lot of questions about the sound each instruments make. We went to the library and found books on all sorts of instruments to look at. Some books came with CDs and we were able to listen with our ears the sounds that these instruments make. We took out our rhythm sticks to hear the sounds again. This showed us how well they remembered how to listen to the directions as well as make some nice new music together. A few of the kids made the connection that these are similar to a drum. We put paper and scissors out at the art center for open art and exploration. We are working on strengthening their cutting skills. They love cutting sheets of paper and creating works of art at the same time. We took pictures of the kids this week doing the various jobs of our classroom. When we come back from break in January, we will start picking classrooms jobs. The kids have all been taking turns doing these jobs to practice the skills, and once we come back they will have each job for a full week and pick new ones each Monday. They are extremely excited about this! Music was very exciting this week. Maestro taught us about pitch. He took out bells that had a different pitch to them and we went up the music scale and down the music scale. Each bell had a different color, number and sound. He taught them the word piano which means soft when playing music. They not only went up and down the music scale, but also got to play songs. We heard twinkle twinkle little star. We also played a song about cats. We look forward to learning more about music and different instruments in his class to play. Shabbat Shalom, Rachel and Linda Reminders: -Winter Break!
