This week in room 3 we started out with yet another weather dampening day! For some children this was the first time they had ever seen hail. The children were so curious what hail felt like that teacher Phoebe went outside to collect a few pieces before it melted. Even though we were not able to be outside, we entertained ourselves in the classroom with much work and fun. We set up a puzzle center to work on a puzzle with 100 pieces! The children were able to go back to it all day to keep working as they please. They were so proud when they finished. We had to take a picture of the children with the puzzle to show you how big it actually was. We began our topic of Tu Bshvat. We introduced the topic by sharing that it is a birthday for the Tree. We then dug deeper into the topic discussing why we should be thankful for trees and what they do for us. Some of the ideas that the children had were; They give us shade They give us fruit They give us paper We also had the chance to go on a nature walk. During the nature walk the children each chose a tree that they wanted to hug to say thank you. They also were able to try to safely climb the tree they chose. When we came back to class we showed them the pictures of them with their tree and asked them to explain why they chose that tree. A few children chose it based on size while others chose based on color. We invite you to come look at their lovely pictures on our Tu B'shvat wall. During our library time, Marla and Amy read us beautiful books about trees and Tu B’shvat. We want to thank them for their time with the children in the library. When speaking about Tu B’shvat, one of the children asked us if the wood to make a tree house was from a tree. We said it was and that brought on a whole discussion about tree houses. The children were telling us what they think they would want their tree house to look like. This brought on a conversation about the construction going on around the campus. We mentioned blueprints are what are used to build a house. They were so interested that during quiet time each child made their own blueprint for their tree house! We also had a very exciting music class with Maestro. The children began their music with the usual songs of Maestro. But then were surprised to find out they were able to play the drums! They were extremely excited and had a wonderful time. Reminders: Next week we celebrate Shabbat with Celine and her family. Please bring a plant and Hallah for the classroom. Picture day is Thursday February 2nd at 11:00am. Fathers and Grandfathers week is the week of February 6th. There is a brunch on Friday the 10th at 10am.

This week room 3 started their week off with Maestro. The children had a very exciting room change and were able to have music in the Orchestra room. They saw all different types of instruments and even got to see Maestro’s office. It was very exciting for them to be able to be in the big kids room. We sang songs about being thankful and it was wonderful to hear what the children were thankful for.
The children had a very special activity decorating their first kippot. These kippot will be worn for Havdallah and Shabbat at the Temple. Some friends made Kiddush cups on them and others made them bright with beautiful colors. The children have really enjoyed working on the floor puzzles during free time. They work together as a team and are so proud of when they complete it. It is great to see the children working together like they learned from the Martin Luther King unit. Reminders: Wednesday the 25th Marla and Amy are library moms. Friday we do not have a Shabbat Family so we welcome any fruit or snack for the children to enjoy. Please continue to sign in and out every morning and pick up. This week room 3 continued their topic on Martin Luther King Jr. It is amazing how well the children have picked up the concept of his speech. The children were able to tell us that his dream was that his four children would not be judged by the color of their skin. We read the book “Martin’s Big Words” and the children were mesmerized by it. They all raised their hands to tell us how they heard those words in the speech. They also were able to tell us the main words and their meaning we discussed last week. Some of their definitions Together- playing with each other on the yard Equality- the same Peace- it means no war Love- it is what you say to someone and it gets rid of hate Care- When you ask someone if they are ok Freedom- Doing what you want We worked on recognizing those words as well. They are able to look at the first few letters of the word and tell us what word it is. Although it was rainy, it did not stop our fun for PE. We went to ZH and played soccer. We worked on kicking the ball to a partner. Once we mastered that, we worked on dribbling- tapping the ball lightly from foot to foot. We also had a special music class where Maestro came to our classroom! They sang about the rain and danced through the room. Reminders: No School Monday the 16th and Tuesday the 17th We do not have a Shabbat family next week so we welcome any fruit or snack for your children to enjoy. Please remember to turn in your child’s USC permission form back to the classroom. Welcome back. We hope you all had a wonderful holiday.
It was a great start to the new year in room 3. We worked on our Winter Break journal. Everyone had the chance to tell the class about all the fun they had over break. Some of our friends went on vacations to Mammoth, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and some friends had a staycation and enjoyed going to an arcade and museum. Working on these journals helps spark the memory of the children. It allows them to recall details that occurred a week or two weeks ago. The children began a new sports in P.E. this week as well. Soccer! We worked on kicking, stopping the ball, aiming, and taking turns. They all enjoyed their time with Coach Herold and look forward to next week soccer time. Our newest topic is about MLK. The children watched and listened to the speech. They were extremely intrigued. They learned meanings of new words. Freedom Equality Togetherness Love Care The children are starting to share their dreams for the world. Some wish for health and happiness and others wish for love and kindness. We will continue our discussion on MLK throughout next week. |
