The Purim holiday has brought so much fun into room 3! The children created their own baskets for their “mishloach manot” (sending of portions) that they will eventually give to others. Each child chose three long strips of colored paper to create a pattern. They used their fine motor skills to weave the strips of paper into the squares of the baskets and combined two pipe cleaners to create the handles for their baskets. The children understand the '"mitzvah" behind making these baskets, and they are excited to fill them up with goodies for their families and friends.
Our students continue to amaze us with their creativity. Using markers, colored tape, and colored pencils, the children decorated small plates with different designs and shapes to make their own Purim groggers. Each child filled the plates with beans and taped them shut. The children will bring their groggers to Synagogue next week for our Purim story. They are aware that the groggers are used make noise every time they hear the name “Haman” during the story in order to drown out his name. A huge thank you to Olivia Gordon for reading a Purim story and a “Curious George” book to the children at the library this week! The children are motivated to learn and enjoy participating in classroom activities. They are able to recognize upper and lowercase letters and they understand the relationships between the different letters and sounds. We are so proud of all of your wonderful children and of the tremendous progress they have made thus far. We hope you all enjoy celebrating at the Purim carnival! Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend. With Love, Vera and Karen Reminders: Purim Carnival: March 1st Snack Mom for March 2: Sharzad Shabbat boy for March 6: Gunner

What an eventful week we had in room 3! Since there was no school on Monday, we celebrated President’s Day with the elementary school for a wonderful ceremony in the synagogue. We sang songs about America, listened to famous quotes written by historical figures, and enjoyed a patriotic concert by Maestro Kates, Brock, Rabbi Yoshi and more.
We made our way to the elementary school science lab where the children learned all about teeth. The class was able to touch models of the inside of the mouth, including fossils from different animals. They learned about the different functions that their teeth have. The children are aware that their front teeth (canines) are for tearing food, and their back teeth (molars) are for grinding food. It was an educational science experiment for the class. For Purim, each child chose a character of their choice to create on a cutout from head to toe. The children used their fine motor skills to draw, cut and glue detailed pictures of Haman, Uncle Mordechai, King Achashverosh, and Vashti. This was not only a learning experience about each one of the characters from the story, but a creative art project for the children as well. We are looking forward to another productive week ahead. Have a great weekend and Shabbat Shalom! With love, Karen and Vera Reminders: February 23-27: Father’s and Grandfather’s week Snack mom for week of February 23: Golareh R. Library Mom for Tuesday February 24: Olivia G. Shabbat girl for February 27: Sophia B. Purim is only a few weeks away and the children have been excited to hear stories and sing songs. So far, we have introduced the different characters and discussed the historical facts within this fun holiday.
The class has been working on creating the zoo in our ‘community room.’ They have done a magnificent job putting together Lego pieces to demonstrate what a zoo looks like in real life. They are using their fine motor skills to effectively complete tasks including separating Legos, putting animals together, and attaching all the pieces. The children are applying their imagination and creativity into the building process and are using specific details to complete this part of the project. The children have been working independently on writing their last names as well as recognizing and identifying the letters in their names. They participate in activities that are related to stories and books, and spend a lot of time in the library section of our classroom. We are looking forward to another productive week. Shabbat Shalom and have a fabulous weekend! Vera &Karen Reminders: Picture day: Wednesday, February 18 Shabbat girl for February 20: Iman Room 3 had special visitors in the classroom! The fifth graders joined our students as ‘buddies’ for an exciting morning with one another. The children created art projects, read stories, made puzzles, and conversed with each other. This was a wonderful experience for the class and it was great to see the connections between the age groups. We are looking forward to having the fifth grade buddies visit again soon.
The children did an outstanding job on their Tu B’Shevat journal entries. Their detailed drawings and use of words provided the information they needed in order to complete this task. The class is able to classify the different trees, and distinguish between the different parts of the trees. The children can identify the roots, trunk, branches, stems, and leaves. We discussed what grows on trees, the benefits of trees, and how trees grow. For example: trees provide oxygen, fruit, and shade. We had such a fun and yummy Tu B’Shevat celebration with all of the Pre-K classes. Each class provided different kinds of fresh and dried fruits. We all discussed the significance of this holiday, sang songs, and said the prayers together. The children chose the fruits they wanted to eat and sat together under the trees. It was a beautiful experience for all of the children. Chag Sameach and Shabbat Shalom! Reminders: Special snack mom for February 9: Firoozeh Bakshian Library mom for February 10: Rebecca Cohen |
