What a beautiful Passover Seder we had with you all!
We loved seeing the families join together as they followed along with the Haggadah and enjoyed a tasty meal. The children did an incredible job singing songs and performing their verse of “Ma Neeshtanah” for everyone. Thank you for all of your contributions and for making Passover at Wise School a memorable experience for all of your children. Our students continue to amaze us with their creativity. The children were given a rectangular piece of fabric and they used their fine motor skills to design their own matzah cover. Using colored fabric markers, each child drew Passover symbols of their choice (Seder plate, matzah, pyramid, Haggadah, etc). The children will take their matzah covers and matzah plates home with them as keepsakes for their family Seders. This week, the children completed their Passover journal entries by providing details about the characters and the story. Each child used crayons, colored pencils, and markers to draw their interpretation of the holiday and provided their words about the story for their entry. We are so proud of their dedication towards their work in the classroom. May your Passover overflow with happiness, and may you always be blessed with peace and togetherness. Have a wonderful Spring break and Shabbat Shalom! The Passover fun continues in room 3!
Each child decorated their own matzah holder by choosing a pattern of their choice, and gluing it onto the border. The children thought about which pattern they wanted to create and used their fine motor skills to peel and apply the stickers in order. We have been reading stories and singing songs about Passover. The children contribute to discussions about the Haggadah, the Seder plate, and the four questions. A huge thank you to Rebecca Cohen for reading stories to the children at the library this week. It is always a pleasure to have parents come in and read to the children. We made our way to the elementary school science lab this week. The science teachers discussed the different colors of trash cans and what they are meant for. For example, the children learned that green bins are for recycled materials. They also discussed the different ways we can protect our earth since “Earth Day” is coming up in April after Spring Break. Children talked about saving water, saving electricity, and reusing bags for groceries. Towards the end of their science lesson, the children had the opportunity to plant lettuce seeds in the school garden. Science is always an exciting, hands-on experience for the children. We look forward to celebrating Passover with all of the Pre-K classes and their parents on March 24th at 11:00 in Hershenson Hall. We ask that you make separate arrangements for younger siblings for the seder so you can enjoy this special time with your child.. Have a wonderful weekend and Shabbat Shalom! With love, Karen and Vera Happy (almost) Passover room 3! We introduced the story of Passover to the children. They are aware that the Jewish people celebrate Passover as a commemorate their freedom from slavery in ancient Egypt. We discussed the history of a pyramid and why it is significant to the story of Passover. The children are familiar with terms that related to this topic such as limestone, 3-D, cracks, carving, and prism. We discussed the meanings of these words and the children contributed to conversations by asking questions that were relevant to the material. We have been practicing the song, “Ma Nishtana,” (what has changed?) which represents the four questions that is sung during the Passover Seder. Each child created their own matzah plate by using their fine motor skills to paint, glue, and draw. They applied their creativity to this fun art project which they will take home to their families. We are looking forward to going into more details with Passover and elaborating on this wonderful holiday with your children. Have a great weekend and Shabbat Shalom! The Pre-K classes have been invited to a special assembly on Friday, March 20 in honor of our Temple's namesake, Stephen S. Wise, and the entire day will be forever known as, "Founder's Day." Our Shabbat service will be at 9:30 in the classroom and 10:00 in Plotkin Chapel. This unique celebratory event will begin at 11:00 in the Sanctuary where Rabbi Isaiah Zeldin will be the special guest! Our students will be seated with their fifth grade buddies. A huge thank you to Golareh Ramin for making hamentashen with the children. This was a great hands-on experience and a fun cooking lesson for the class. Each child used their fine motor skills to scoop a small scoop of jelly and place it in the center of the dough. Then, they “pinched” the circled dough into threes to create a triangle. The children made the connection between Haman’s hat and the hamaneteshen by stating that they are both in the shape of a triangle.
It was a privilege to have Golareh Ramin and Myra Aron read books to the children at the library this week. We would like to thank both of them for coming and for sharing this experience with us. The children really enjoyed listening to all of the stories. Thank you so much, Kathie Arastoozadeh, for giving us fresh lemons from your lemon tree! We made yummy lemonade with the children by giving each child the opportunity to squeeze the lemons and mix in the sugar and water. The children learned about the difference between sweet and sour, and why adding sugar makes the lemonade less sour by balancing out the taste. The class was so excited to drink their lemonade while eating their snack. The children completed their Purim journal entry by providing details about the characters and the story. Each child drew their interpretation of the Purim holiday and provided their words about the story for their entry. We are so proud of their dedication towards their work in the classroom. Happy Purim and Shabbat Shalom! With love, Karen and Vera Reminders: Snack mom for week of March 9th: Keili |
