What a wonderful week! The children in room 3 started off the week doing a beautiful Mitzvah of donating food to the homeless and hungry through the SOVA market. Each of the children received a sticker for being a Sova Hero. The children were very curious about why we give to SOVA when it is not Shabbat, so we discussed the importance of doing mitzvot every day of the week.
We continued the story of Passover, and the children used this opportunity to write about the holiday in their journals. Some chose to draw baby Moses, while others drew the burning bush. Each child dictated their favorite part of the story to us to write in their journal. We began to learn the four questions for the Seder. We have been working on some Passover songs that we look forward to singing for all of you at our Seder. We are so proud of the hard work and practice during PE. The children love being with Coach Herold. This week they worked on throwing, hitting and catching the ball over the net. Coach also gave the children the option to play basketball on the "big kid" hoops. We have some real basketball stars in this class. Our year is going by so fast! This week the children recorded their Pre-K video. They loved being in front of the camera having their "star" moment. Reminders: Please join us for our Passover Seder on April 4th at 11:00am We look forward to celebrating Shabbat with Addison and her family on April 7th. Please remember a Hallah and plant. April 7 is a half day- Noon dismissal

Room 3 had a great start to the week with our first science class. We walked to the science lab and learned from one of the amazing elementary school science teachers. The children watched a video about force and then they participated in their own experience. They took a string and figured out the correct strength that would knock a cup over without hitting the paper behind it. We continued our holiday topic of Passover. We have begun to learn songs like "dig, dig", "Dayenu" and the four questions. In the music lab we practiced the songs with Maestro. The children worked on their Afikoman holder. Each child decorated their felt with designs of their choice. Some chose to draw their family and some chose to draw Jewish stars or flowers. With all the construction going on on campus, the children have taken it upon themselves to build their own creations with the blocks. They are creating ideas for how the new building should look. They also use the magnet tiles to make separate rooms in the building and they then name each room. During PE, Coach Herold worked with the children on hitting volleyballs. They bounced the ball and "bumped" it. They tried to "bump" the ball as many times as possible without dropping it. Each one of them had a great time practicing their skills. On Monday, we will be collecting food for our Passover SOVA drive, and we will visit our first ever SOVA market! Please send your child to school with an item to donate to the SOVA bin for Passover. We will visit the SOVA market on Witzman Court as a class to donate these items. Items to include can be: Kosher for Passover canned goods, macaroons, Kosher for Passover Cereal, Matza, Gefilte Fish. Please visit the market yourself to make a donation or to pick up a SOVA bag. Reminders: Monday, March 27th- SOVA Drive. Please send your child to class with an item to donate, please visit the market on Witzman court to make a donation or to pick up a SOVA bag. April 4th at 11:00am is our Passover Seder. Please keep the date open. For those who have not signed up for an item for the Seder please come by the room to sign the paper. We look forward to celebrating Shabbat with Sophia and her family next week. Please remember a Hallah and a plant. We hope you all had a wonderful weekend at the Purim carnival. We enjoyed hearing the stories from your children about the fun they had! We know that some children signed the beam with their siblings and parents, and those that did not sign it at the carnival had a chance to do so on Monday with the class. We walked up to the beam and the children had time to look into the construction site. The next day some of our friends went to watch the beam rise with their parents. It is great to hear how excited they are that their names are in the new building! We began to tell the story of Passover this week with the help of Rabbi Josh. He came to the class and introduced all the "characters" in the story. When he left, we continued our discussion on Passover and the children were extremely interested in the pyramids. We spoke about the pyramids being in Egypt and our friends discussed how they know that there are mummies in the Egyptian pyramids. They explained to us that mummies are things that are rolled in toilet paper and that we should all dress up as mummies for Passover. After we spent time listening to the children discuss mummies, we continued with the story of Passover. The children listened intently. We began to decorate part of our Haggadah and even drew pictures to be printed in the Haggadah. This week during PE, we started our unit of Volleyball. It was very fun for the children to be able to play on the court on which the big kids play. They were able to hit the ball back and forth using different ways to hit-- bumping, setting and spiking. Some of our friends were excited to show Coach Herold that they knew how to serve because of their older siblings. Reminders: Consider spending your summer with Camp Wise! Camp Wise offers a fun, safe and loving community of campers grades K-6 for 7 weeks. On Tuesday and Wednesday, March 21 and 22nd, the camp team will have a table in the Pre-K area at drop-off to answer any questions you might have. Next week we look forward to celebrating Shabbat with Charlie and his family. Please remember to bring a Hallah. Our library moms for next Wednesday are Ortila and Shiva. We look forward to having you read to the class. April 4th at 11:00am is our class Seder. Please put that date in your calendar. Room 3 has had a wonderful week of Purim fun. We continued to speak about the story of Purim and the traits of each character. The children picked which character they want to be:
Queen Vashti - Harper -Sydney -Leah -Sophia Queen Esther - Addison - Ella - Remi - Ashley Haman - Noah - Jonah King Achashverosh - Jordan - Charlie - Adam - Simon - Celine Uncle Mordechai - Tyrus In the spirit of Purim, we created different types of groggers. One was with plates and beads and the children painted it. The other was a very special grogger. Lida came in and made food groggers with the kids. It was great! They took ice cream cones and filled them with m&ms. They then put frosting and used it to "glue" the cookie to the top. They sprinkled sprinkles on the top and created a beautiful delicious grogger. Golareh came in to make delicious Hamentaschen with the class. They used chocolate chips and strawberry jam. We used the Hamentaschen to create our Mishloach Manot. They created little baskets through which they weaved paper. Each child went around and picked out their candy to put in the baskets. We had one of our friends go and read to our N1 friends down the hall. He read them a BOB book and we are very proud of him. In the spirit of reading, we had some kindergarten friends come and read to us. It was very special. We had a great time singing Purim songs during Music with Maestro. Reminders: We look forward to celebrating Shabbat next week with Ella and Sydney and their family. Tuesday - Half day 12 dismissal Wednesday- No School Saturday, 3/18- Tot Shabbat at Wise Please keep this date in mind- April 4th at 11:00 am is our Passover Seder. Have a wonderful Purim and enjoy the carnival. This week we continued the topic of Purim. The children of room 3 have been very interested in the holiday. We discussed the characteristics of the characters in the story. The children gave us details about each character we showed them. For example, Haman is in a "nightgown" that is brown and black. One of our children connected that since he is the bad guy of the story, he is wearing not happy colors. Another child was very concerned about Queen Vashti, wondering if she ever found another boyfriend. The children love to make noise when they hear Haman's name throughout the day. Rabbi Josh visited our classroom and entertained the kids of room 1 and 3 with his own Purim story. He dressed in different hats and the kids had a blast.
The children in room 3 had a fantastic time in PE this week. They learned a new game that involves kicking and aiming soccer balls. They worked as a team and raced to knock all the soccer balls off the cones. Every time we mention working as a team, they bring up how when you work as a team, you work faster. This was something we discussed during our hot wheels unit. Everyone has been very interested in building robots in the room. We placed a math game that had blocks that connect. Our class used those blocks to create their own robots instead of doing the math game. We were very proud of them for being creative. Reminders: Next week we look forward to celebrating Shabbat with Harper and her family. Please remember a Hallah for the class. Your children may come in costume for the whole day of school on Friday the 10th in honor of Purim. Tuesday the 14th is half day- noon dismissal.
