Dear Parents:
It has been yet another great week in PreK! The children are learning about Yom Kippur and we examined the many details about the shofar. The children were able to observe closely all of the different types of shofarot and they recapped the details to us. The activity culminated with an art project where each child got a nice-size piece of clay and they are going to sculpt their own. We also learned about the holiday of Sukkot. We learned about the Sukkah and how and why we build one. We also had the opportunity to play in our own Sukkah in the yard where the children decided that they had to plan Sukkah party. Special Reminders: Tot Shabbat: Saturday, September 26 at 10:00 a.m. in Hershenson Hall. Sukkot: Monday, September 28 - School is closed in observance of Sukkot. Library Mom: Tuesday, September 30 - Natalie Bral. Shabbat Child: Friday, October 2: Misha Torkan Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom & Hag Sameach! Anne and Vera

Wow!
What an amazing beginning of the year! We have been very busy getting to know one another. We are making new friends and learning all about pre-k. Our discussions have been mostly about the beginning of the year and what it might mean. We also talked a lot about Rosh Hashanah and Yom kippur as the beginning of the year. We learned about these holidays and what they mean to us and our family. We also made Rosh Hashana cards. We learned about the special foods we eat on Rosh Hashana (pomegranate, apples and honey, round challa). We had a bee keeper come to school and teach us all about bees and honey. We learned about the shofar; it is made from a ram's horn and we blow it on Rosh Hahsana and Yom Kippur. We learned that there are four different blows that make different sounds. We had someone come to our class and blow the shofar for us. We observed the details of the shofarot in our class. Some were long and some were short, some were dark and others were light. The children are really interested in patterns and they noticed that the shofarot had different patterns. We will continue learning about the details of the shofar next week as we get ready for Yom Kippur.
