Dear Parents
This week we continued working on Thanksgiving, the children are finishing their necklaces and are now working on their headbands which involve they’re using patterns and if when you see, they are more and more complex.. . We discussed habitat and learned that people can live in different kinds of houses. The Native Americans lived in tepees while the pilgrims built cabins. We talked about the differences in their stricture and learned that in order for a building to be strong, they need a strong foundation. “Structure” is the beginning unit of our new Wise Learning Process from USC we are to learn how so many things need a structure to exist.. The children are slowly learning to recognize structures around them. We are also starting to learn about Hanukkah as it is approaching fast!!! A sign-up sheet for the Hanukkah party will be posted shortly. The party will be on Tuesday December 8th in our classroom. As we are getting closer to Thanksgiving, we are introducing the children to the Pilgrims and Native Americans. We discussed the story of how the Pilgrims came to America and how the Native Americans were already living in America when they arrived.
Our focus has been on Native American arts and crafts. In all they did, the Native Americans used patterns. Since the children have been learning about patterns we have linked both units and the children love to create their Native American inspired art. We also have been talking about the meaning of Thanksgiving and what it means to be thankful. We read a book in which a little boy is thankful for all the things around him, the sun, the stars, the seasons and all that he sees. We then asked the children to look for the sunset at night and notice its colors. Shabbat Shalom. This has been quite a busy week. We started off by talking about Thanksgiving. We each said what we were thankful for and the children had some really beautiful things to share. We have different kinds of pumpkins in the classroom and we were able to compare and contrast them. Some were big and smooth, and some were small and bumpy. We wondered why they were different on the outside and discussed that although they look different, they were relatively the same on the inside. We mentioned that we also look different from one another, yet we are all human beings. We cut open the big pumpkin and saw that inside there were many seeds and they felt 'gooey" when we took them out. We washed the seeds and roasted them with salt and we cooked the pumpkin with honey. We tasted them and noticed that one was sweet and the other was salty. We introduced our senses and talked about the sense of taste which let us know the different tastes. On Thursday we had so much fun baking pumpkin cookies which were delicious!!! Shabbat Shalom, Anne and Vera Reminder: -Order deadline for Square Art is November 9. |
